This policy explains how NYK Holdings, doing business as Culture Column, handles information when you visit culturecolumn.com, subscribe, correspond with us, or interact with publication features.
NYK Holdings is responsible for Culture Column's site-level data practices.
This policy applies to Culture Column websites and communications that link to it. It does not govern an external website, retailer, social platform, payment provider, or other service linked from an article. Those services control their own practices.
For applicable data-protection law, NYK Holdings, doing business as Culture Column, is the controller or business for information it determines how and why to process. Privacy requests may be sent to privacy@culturecolumn.com.
Most reading does not require an account or a profile.
Hosting and security systems may process IP address, browser and device type, operating system, referrer, requested URL, timestamps, approximate region derived from IP, response status, and diagnostic or security events. We receive information you choose to send by email, including contact details, message content, attachments, and correspondence history.
Newsletter signup requires an email address. If a delivery provider is activated, that provider may also process subscription time, consent record, delivery, open or click events depending on configuration, bounce status, and unsubscribe status. We do not ask for sensitive medical, financial, precise-location, biometric, or government-identifier information through ordinary publication forms.
Reading history stays in the browser; optional analytics are limited to publication events.
Culture Column stores a short list of recently opened article slugs in your browser's local storage to offer pertinent Continue reading links. That history is not transmitted to Culture Column by the feature. You can remove it by clearing site data in your browser.
When configured, Culture Column uses Plausible Analytics to measure page views and limited events such as article reads, scroll milestones, searches, outbound links, newsletter actions, and related-story clicks. We do not intentionally send form contents, email addresses, full reading history, or sensitive categories in analytics event properties.
Browsers may send Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control signals. Because Culture Column does not currently sell personal information or share it for cross-context behavioral advertising, there is no sale or sharing to opt out of. If those practices change, we will update this policy and honor legally required preference signals.
Information is used to operate, secure, understand, and communicate about the publication.
We process information to deliver pages, prevent abuse, diagnose failures, maintain security, measure aggregate readership, improve editorial products, respond to messages, evaluate corrections and legal requests, administer partnerships, send requested newsletters, maintain suppression lists, comply with law, and establish or defend legal claims.
Where a legal basis is required, we rely on performance of a requested service, consent for optional communications or technology where required, legitimate interests in operating and improving a low-data publication, and compliance with legal obligations. You may withdraw consent prospectively where consent is the basis, without affecting earlier lawful processing.
We disclose information for operations, not as a data-broker business.
Information may be disclosed to hosting, content delivery, security, analytics, newsletter, email, professional-adviser, insurer, and other vendors that support the purposes described here; to a counterparty in a merger, financing, reorganization, or sale subject to appropriate safeguards; or to authorities and other parties when reasonably necessary for law, safety, rights, fraud prevention, or legal process.
Culture Column does not sell personal information for money and does not currently share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising. We do not knowingly use sensitive personal information to infer characteristics about readers.
Information is kept only as long as reasonably needed for the stated purpose.
Newsletter records are generally retained until you unsubscribe, plus limited suppression data needed to honor that choice. Correspondence may be retained for up to three years, or longer when reasonably needed for an active editorial, contractual, safety, insurance, or legal matter. Hosting, security, and analytics records follow provider settings and are generally kept for shorter operational periods. Backups and legal holds may persist for an additional limited period.
We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards appropriate to the nature of the information. No network, storage system, transmission, or security control is infallible, and Culture Column cannot guarantee absolute security.
Applicable law may provide access, correction, deletion, restriction, portability, objection, or appeal rights.
You may unsubscribe through the link in a newsletter or contact privacy@culturecolumn.com. Depending on location and applicable law, you may request access to, correction of, deletion of, or portability of personal information; restriction or objection to processing; withdrawal of consent; information about disclosures; or an appeal of a denied request.
We may verify identity and authority, ask for information needed to locate records, decline or limit requests where law permits, and retain information required for security, fraud prevention, legal obligations, free expression, or legal claims. Authorized agents may be required to provide proof of authority. We do not discriminate for exercising applicable privacy rights.
California residents may have rights to know, delete, correct, limit certain sensitive-information uses, and opt out of sale or sharing. Culture Column does not currently sell or share personal information as those terms are used for cross-context behavioral advertising. Residents of the EEA, UK, and similar jurisdictions may also complain to their local supervisory authority.
The publication is operated from the United States and is intended for a general audience.
Information may be processed in the United States and other countries where providers operate. Those jurisdictions may have different laws. Where required, service-provider contracts or other lawful transfer mechanisms are used.
Culture Column is not directed to children under 13 and does not knowingly collect personal information from them. A parent or guardian who believes a child submitted personal information should contact privacy@culturecolumn.com so the matter can be reviewed and, where appropriate, deleted.
Material changes are identified by a new review date and additional notice where required.
We may update this policy as services, vendors, and law change. Changes apply prospectively when posted unless another date is stated. Material changes may receive additional notice when required by law.
